Gawker forgets they've already covered author...

Trolling through Gawker today, I caught sight of a post about Craig Davidson, author of The Fighter. Now, for those of you loyal readers, you may remember that Slunch covered last year's fight between Craig and fellow-scribe Jonathan Ames - and scooped EVERYONE (suck on that) with the first pics of Jonathan Ames and girlfriend Fiona Apple.

Anyway, today's Gawker post referenced an article in the Guardian - a piece about his steriod use while doing research for his book and the impact it had on his body. What Gawker failed to realize, however, is that 1) this piece appeared in Esquire already and 2) they should have already been familiar with Craig from the event they ATTENDED and COVERED on their site. I know you guys have had a lot of turnover recently, and that Josh and Emily (everyone's favorite ex-couple) are no longer there, but come on. A little research please.

3 rounds, 2 authors, 1 book: The Fighter

Pugilistic pundits and prolific purveyors of protagonists Jonathan Ames and Craig Davidson duked it out at Gleason's tonight in Dumbo Brooklyn, to a record crowd of 300 spectators that were first entertained by the gyroscopic gyrations of Miss Saturn.

Each round was announced by a husband and wife team: the Mangina hoisting Valmonte Sprout on his shoulders and parading about the ring in truly disturbing fashion - sure to warp the dreams of the mantastic, steroid-induced spectators in the other ring. The ones that had to stop beating the shit out of each other to see what the hell was going on.

Now, I grew up with the Rocky films, so I was expecting three rounds of pure bloody confrontation. Instead, I found a lot of hugging or man cuddling in the first 2 rounds, but in the 3rd round, my expectations were redeemed by pure brutal brilliance. Hats off to SOHO PRESS for pulling off one of the best publicity stunts for a Canadian author ever. Eh?

Literary event of the month. Davisdson v Ames

This has to be the coolest thing ever. Davidson v Ames at Gleason's on July 26. Two authors duking it out all to promote a book? I say a resounding YES. There needs to be more fighting among rivals. Spontaneous brawls are fine if you're Toby Young, but a planned event is just brilliant. So, Letham, if you want to leave your Superman and Golom of Prague behind, I'm waiting for you!
